BIOGRAPHY
Fredrick Sammo was employed in 2017 as Tutorial assistant in Monogastric nutrition. He is currently an MSc candidate in Animal Sciences at Wageningen University and Research specializing in Animal Nutrition and Metabolism. He has a strong interest in monogastric nutrition, particularly pig and poultry. Sammo has finished conducting a thesis project involving feeding laying chickens with Black soldier fly (BSF) live larvae and a combination of BSF larvae meal and oil. Sammo’s thesis title was “Impacts of feeding BSF live larvae and combination of BSF meal and oil on laying hens’ growth performance, intestinal organs, and welfare.”
Before joining Wageningen University he has experience working with smallholder and commercial pig and chicken farmers in Tanzania and the United States of America. His ambition is to explore alternative protein sources and to make BSFL production more competitive with soy and fish meals prices.
