George Muhamba Tryphone (PhD) is a senior lecturer and holds a PhD in plant breeding.  His main specialty is crop improvement. His research interests include breeding for resistance, marker assisted selection, biotechnology and climate change resilience. His research involvement include projects on Use of Molecular Markers for increased efficiency for breeding for diseases in common bean in Southern Africa, Tanzania (Funded by Kirkhouse Trust, UK), Introgression of bruchid resistance into farmers preferred varieties for increased productivity and stability of bean supply (Funded by McKnight Foundation), and Enhanced fruits preservation using nano technology. Dr. Tryphone has published 16 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He served a member of secretariat of project on Climate Change Impacts Adaptation and Mitigation in Tanzania (CCIAM).

He is serving as an Assistant Editor of Sokoine University of Agriculture Convocation Newsletter (SUACONE) since 2015 to date. Dr. Tryphone is currently the Technical Editor of Tanzania Journal of Agricultural Sciences (TAJAS)
