BIOGRAPHY
Born on 1st November 1970, Prof. Maulid W. Mwatawala completed a Bachelor of Science in 1995 from Sokoine University of Agriculture. He, later on, obtained a Master of Science in Agriculture and Ph.D. (Applied Entomology) at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in 1998 and 2008 respectively. Prof. Mwatawala has also a Bachelor of Laws (LLB, Hons. and Master of Law in Information Technology and Telecommunication(LLM IT&T)obtained in 2003 and 2015 respectively. He is also an advocate of the Tanzania High Court and Subordinate Courts since January 2020.
Prof. Mwatawala started his professional carrier at SUA in December 2000 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture and rose to the rank of Professor in 2017. Prof. Mwatawala is a Professor in Applied Entomology. Prof. Mwatawala has published 64 articles in peer-reviewed journals, one book chapter, and numerous conference papers and extension materials. Prof. Mwatawala is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor -Academics.
Prof. Mwatawala is a member of the Governing Council of the Tropical Pestcides Research Institute (TPRI); a member of Ministerial Advisory Board (MAB) of the Tanzania Food and Drugs Agency (TFDA); Chairman on the Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Sub – Commitee (POPS) of the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries. He is also a vice chairman of the Tanzania Entomological Association (TEA).
