AGROVEG is a collaborative project between the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA, Belgium, as leading Institution), Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique), and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) funded by the Belgian Development Cooperation (BDC). The project proposes the development of environmental-friendly methodologies, along agroecological principles, to mitigate the impact of fruit flies on vegetables such as cucurbits and Solanaceous crops.
Within this framework AGROVEG project intends to recruit one MSc candidate between November, 2020 to October, 2022) to conduct laboratory experiments at SUA on host related transcriptomics of Z. cucurbitae fed on allegedly conventional and unconventional hosts, as well as assessing the impact of agro-ecological practices versus conventional pest control approaches. The field experiments will be implemented using infrastructures and expertise available at the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture of SUA. The analysis of transcriptomic data will benefit of collaboration with researchers and PhD students of the Royal Museum for Central Africa.
Applications from qualified and interested Tanzanians are hereby invited to fill the MSc. positions in the fields specified above. The scholarships will ONLY be considered for applicants who have secured admission or submitted application for admission into MSc. Crop Science or MSc. Applied Crop Protection at SUA. The applicant should possess a BSc. in Agriculture General, Horticulture, Agronomy or related agricultural degree with GPA of ≥3.5 from a reputable university. Experience in working on Tephritid (fruit flies) and or molecular biology will be an added advantage. Females are highly encouraged to apply.
