On 13th November 2020, Dr. Rasel Madaha was invited to a Gender show broadcasted by Abood FM. Madaha shared his views on Gender and Covid19 at the show from around 5 p.m to 5:15 p.m. His host was Vumilia Kondo, a journalist, and broadcaster, working for Abood Media. Overall, Vumilia asked Dr. Madaha his views on the effects of COVID19 on women’s participation in the election and productive activities.
Madaha was of opinion that COVID19 affected women and men differently. He stemmed his views from a strand of gender scholarship known as, “Gender and Disaster.” The scholarship argues that disaster allows existing inequalities and oppressive forces to manifest themselves rather openly. In other words, increased Gender Based Violence (GBV) during disasters, is a reflection of existing troubled gender relations. In this regard, Madaha said that women and other stakeholders need to fight harder to eliminate patriarchal relations. Those efforts also need to involve men because gender is about how men and women relate to one another.
