Dr. Rasel Madaha facilitated the launching of the scaleWAYS- East Africa Community of Practice (CoP) on 3rd December 2020.
Following the resumption of normalcy in June 2020, there were a number of inquiries from the members of the Tanzania Chapter of the CoP on the next steps. Dr.Rasel Madaha requested members in Tanzania to be patient. However, the momentum on the thirsty to engage in the project slowed a bit. In this regard, the scaleWAYS-East Africa CoP chapter in Tanzania requested assistance from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) and the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to start engaging with the Tanzania chapter of the CoP.
In this context, the Tanzanian chapter of scaleWAYS-East Africa held a virtual inception workshop with members of the Tanzania chapter on December 3, 2020 at 11 am EAT. However, the meeting would be complemented by face to face multi-stakeholder conference to bridge science and policy in six months. The face to face conference will provide a platform for members in Tanzania to network with stakeholders on policy and practice in the rice and fodder production domains in the country. It will involve paper presentations related to themes of the scaleWAYS project by key stakeholders in Tanzania.
scaleWAYS-East Africa is a Community of Practice (CoP) consisting of professionals interested in scaling resilient water and agriculture management systems for sustainable rice and fodder production in East Africa. scaleWAYS-East Africa is comprised of individual professionals who are committed to education, training, and research for sound policy at the nexus of agriculture and water and are willing to use their knowledge, experience, and skills to further develop the community and scale resilient agriculture and water management practices for sustainable rice and fodder production in East Africa. They include academics, researchers, natural resources management practitioners, policymakers, as well as experts in the finance and development community operating in the sub-region. scaleWAYS-East Africa seeks to stimulate participation and shared learning of skills and experience as an efficient and effective tool for human capacity development, bringing out local experience to regional and global attention, and rapid dissemination of knowledge to inform sound policy and best management practices.
