Prof. Mwaseba presents at the Third National Ecological Organic Agriculture Conference

Prof. Mwaseba, Coordinator, Agroecology Hub in Tanzania Project and member of the department, had an opportunity to give a keynote speech at the Third National Ecological Organic Agriculture Conference. His topic was Scaling up Agroecology in Tanzania whose abstract is as follows:

In recent years, the dominant industrial or conventional agriculture has been criticized for being unable to meet the needs of people equitably. Thus, agroecology is seen as its alternative because of having significant potential social and environmental benefits. With particular focus on Tanzania, the presentation highlights positive developments on agroecology in the country. Next, it shows that despite the positive developments made there are several policy related challenges that hold back scaling up agroecology. Finally, it points out opportunities, which if exploited could help promote agroecological intensification in the country. The Key words of new Agroecology, scaling up, agroecological intensification, and industrial agriculture.
