There are some myths that the fields of community development, rural development, and agricultural extension are the same. That is, competent community development graduates can perform the role of rural development, and agricultural extension specialists easily. The answer is no: community development may perform some of the general roles of specialists in rural development and agricultural extension. However, they will miss some of the core competencies to perform the roles of rural development, and agricultural extension (besides, extension methods are unique and require professional training) efficiently and effectively.
