What is BSc. Applied Agricultural Extension?

Published on 16/10/2020

B.Sc. Applied Agricultural Extension has the intention of preparing graduates capable of transforming agriculture and rural development to boost the national economy. The program is geared at doubling of agricultural output, increasing rural incomes, and ensuring national food security. Current graduates play a key role in the transformation of smallholder production systems from subsistence to commercial level. They also play a role in increasing diversification into high-value agricultural products, as a means to rural poverty reductions across developing countries.

In this regard, the main objective of this degree program is to produce competent, responsible, and innovative strategic agricultural extension professionals. The professionals serve as managers at middle-level managerial roles in public and private entities. They also serve as agricultural extension agents, managers, and administrators of agricultural extension systems, sub-systems, schemes, and programs designed to respond to the agricultural extension demands of African nations in the sub-region of SADC and other developing nations.
