By the end of the course, students shall be able to:

  • Identify perennial crops of economic and social importance.
  • Review on how to prepare and manage a nursery.
  • Demonstrate various methods of propagation in perennial crops production.
  • Assessment of suitable sites for production of perennial crops.
  • Demonstrate ability to transplant and manage perennial crops in permanent fields.

  • Course content

Definition of perennial crops, socio-economic importance of perennial crops, production and marketing trends, potential and limitations for their production,  research  strategies  for sustainable production, propagation methods, application of agronomic principles to production, harvesting and postharvest handling.

Practical skills:

Practising various propagation methods; Assessing suitable sites for production of perennial crops; Design and prepare land for planting of perennial crops; Demonstrate management, harvesting and postharvest handling of perennial crops.

The course will be delivered through lectures, practical sessions, seminars/tutorials and independent study sessions

  1. Assessment methods

The course will be assessed by quizzes, assignments, seminar presentation reports, practical reports, practical tests, theory tests and end of semester University examination.
