The Department of Model Training Farm under the College of Agriculture at Sokoine university of Agriculture (SUA) is proud to announce the upcoming availability of a substantial quantity of “Hass avocado seedlings”, cultivated with precision and care. Scheduled for market release from September to November, these seedlings represent a significant investment in an emerging industry.
Hass avocado has distinguished itself as a premier fruit in international markets, and our department has dedicated considerable resources to ensure the production of high-quality seedlings. Adhering strictly to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) during the grafting process, we prioritize minimizing the risk of microbial infections.
Hass avocado trees typically begin bearing fruit after three years, with the potential for biannual harvests. To foster optimal growth, we remove the first fruits within the production cycle, allowing the trunk or grafted section to strengthen. With proper management, Hass avocado trees can thrive for up to fifty years.
Characterized by small-sized fruit and seeds, Hass avocado boasts a high oil content and is classified as a climacteric fruit. Its exceptional tolerance to postharvest loss means it can be distributed even in areas lacking cooling facilities, making it accessible in local markets. Moreover, Hass avocado is renowned for its rich nutritional profile, offering consumers a valuable source of nutrients.
The Head of the Model Training Farm Department warmly invites the entire SUA community and the general public to place their orders. We eagerly anticipate supplying Hass avocado seedlings to all regions of Tanzania.
