Dr. Monica D. Nakei is a distinguished soil scientist and assistant lecturer at the Department of Soil and Geological Science, Sokoine University of Agriculture. With over four years of teaching experience, she has made significant contributions to the fields of Agricultural Chemistry (Biochemistry) and Environmental Pollution and Management of Agricultural Wastes.
She holds a PhD in Sustainable agriculture and Masters in Soil Science and Land Management from Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) and Sokoine University of Agriculture respectively. Her academic journey is enriched by several training programs and workshops she attended, including a study on Environmental issues at Kyoto University, Japan, and a workshop on Nitrogen fixation bacteria of leguminous plant for sustainable intensification in Tanzania at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Her research focused on the diversity of soybean modulating rhizobia in Tanzania, a topic that aligns with her interest in Biological Nitrogen Fixation.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Nakei has been involved in various research projects, including those with Seeds of Expertise for Vegetable Industry of Africa (SEVIA). She has also worked as an Associate Business Advisor for maize, rice, and sunflower Agro-processors at TechnoServe Tanzania and as an Agronomist at ACDI/VOCA.
Dr. Nakei’s commitment to her field extends beyond academia and research. She has been involved in consultancy work with UNIDO on phytoremediation of DDT and Lindane in Morogoro and Arusha regions, Tanzania. She is a member of the Tanzania Agronomy Society (TAS) and the Soil Science Society of East Africa (SSSEA), contributing to the advancement of her field.
